Each pipeline operator shall maintain the following most
current record or records for at least the time period
prescribed by the following regulations or five years if no
other time period is specified:
(1) For gas and LNG pipelines, those records and
documents required by 49 CFR Parts 191, 192, 193, and 199,
and §8.215 of this chapter (relating to Odorization of Gas).
(2) For liquids pipelines, those records and
documents required by 49 CFR Parts 195 and 199.
(3) Activities for which the above listed regulations
may require record-keeping include but are not limited to:
(A) all design and installation of new and used
pipe, including design pressure calculations, pipeline
specifications, specified minimum yield strength and wall-
thickness calculations, each valve, fitting, fabricated branch
connection, closure, flange connection, station piping,
fabricated assembly, and above-ground breakout tank;
(B) all pipeline construction, procedures,
training, and inspection pertaining to welding, nondestructive
testing, and cathodic protection;
(C) all hydrostatic testing performed on all
pipeline segments, components, and tie-ins; and
(D) the performance of the procedures outlined
in the operations and maintenance procedure manual.
