API actively maintains two standards on the classification of locations for electrical installations at petroleum facilities, as follows: Recommended Practice 500, Recommended Prqctice for Classification of Locations for Electrical Installations at Petroleum Facilities Classified as Class I, Division 1 and Division 2, Second Edition, November 1997 (ANSI/API RP 500-1998), Recommended Practice 505, Recommended Practice for Classification of Location for 1 and Electrical Installations at Petroleum Facilities Classified as Class Zone 2, First Edition, November 1997 (ANSI/API RP 505-1998) 1, Zone 0, Zone. Copies of both recommended practices are attached to this letter. As the letter from Mr. Leonard reflects, operators where informed about the need to review the adequacy of hydrostatic test procedures.\n\nAddressee Acronym: API\n\nAddressee Organization Type: A-Associations\n\nCommunication Date: 1981-10-23\n\nCommunication Type: Official Correspondence\n\nCommunication Contents: AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE LTR: WE HAVE TRANSMITTED COPIES OF THE TWO LETTERS TO THE INSTITUTE'S CENTRAL COMMITTEE ON PIPELINE TRANSPORTATION WITH A REQUEST THAT COMPANIES REVIEW THE EVENTS OF THESE ACCIDENTS FOR RELEVANCE TO THEIR OWN OPERATIONS.
