They will spread along the ground and collect in low or confined areas\n(sewers, basements, tanks, etc.).\n•\nVapor explosion hazard indoors, outdoors or in sewers.\n•\nThose substances designated with a (P) may polymerize explosively when heated or involved in a fire.\n•\nRunoff to sewer may create fire or explosion hazard.\n•\nContainers may explode when heated.\n•\nMany liquids will float on water.\n•\n•\n•\n•\n•\nHEALTH\nMay cause toxic effects if inhaled or ingested.\nContact with substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes.\nFire will produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases.\nVapors may cause dizziness or asphyxiation, especially when in closed or confined areas.\nRunoff from fire control or dilution water may cause environmental contamination.\nPUBLIC SAFETY\nCALL 911. Then call emergency response telephone number on shipping paper. If shipping paper\nnot available or no answer, refer to appropriate telephone number listed on the inside back cover.\nKeep unauthorized personnel away.\nStay upwind, uphill and/or upstream.\nVentilate closed spaces before entering, but only if properly trained and equipped.\n•\n•\n•\n•\nPROTECTIVE CLOTHING\n•\nWear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).\n•\nWear chemical protective clothing that is specifically recommended by the manufacturer when there is\nNO RISK OF FIRE.\n•\nStructural firefighters' protective clothing provides thermal protection but only limited chemical protection.\nEVACUATION\nImmediate precautionary measure\n•\nIsolate spill or leak area for at least 50 meters (150 feet) in all directions.\nSpill\n•\nFor highlighted materials: see Table 1 - Initial Isolation and Protective Action Distances.\n•\nFor non-highlighted materials: increase the immediate precautionary measure distance, in the downwind\ndirection, as necessary.\nFire\n•\nIf tank, rail tank car or highway tank is involved in a fire, ISOLATE for 800 meters (1/2 mile) in all\ndirections; also, consider initial evacuation for 800 meters (1/2 mile) in all directions.\nPage 194\nERG 2024\n\nFlammable Liquids - Corrosive\nGUIDE\n132\nEMERGENCY RESPONSE\nFIRE\n•\nSome of these materials may react violently with water.\nSmall Fire\n•\nDry chemical, CO2, water spray or alcohol-resistant foam.\nLarge Fire\n•\nWater spray, fog or alcohol-resistant foam.\n•\nIf it can be done safely, move undamaged containers away from the area around the fire.\n•\nDike runoff from fire control for later disposal.\n•\nDo not get water inside containers.\nFire Involving Tanks, Rail Tank Cars or Highway Tanks\n•\nFight fire from maximum distance or use unmanned master stream devices or monitor nozzles.\n•\nCool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out.\n•\nWithdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety devices or discoloration of tank.\n•\nALWAYS stay away from tanks in direct contact with flames.\n•\nFor massive fire, use unmanned master stream devices or monitor nozzles; if this is impossible, withdraw\nfrom area and let fire burn.\nSPILL OR LEAK\n•\nELIMINATE all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames) from immediate area.\n•\nAll equipment used when handling the product must be grounded.\n•\nDo not touch or walk through spilled material.\n•\nStop leak if you can do it without risk.\n•\nPrevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas.\n•\nA vapor-suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors.\n•\nAbsorb with earth, sand or other non-combustible material.\n•\nFor hydrazine, absorb with DRY sand or inert absorbent (vermiculite or absorbent pads).\n•\n•\nUse clean, non-sparking tools to collect absorbed material.\nLarge Spill\nDike far ahead of liquid spill for later disposal.\n•\nWater spray may reduce vapor, but may not prevent ignition in closed spaces.\nFIRST AID\nRefer to the “General First Aid” section.\nSpecific First Aid:\n•\nFor corrosives, in case of contact, immediately flush skin or eyes with running water for at least 30\nminutes. Additional flushing may be required.\n•\nIn case of burns, immediately cool affected skin for as long as possible with cold water.
