Then call emergency response telephone number on shipping paper. If shipping paper\nnot available or no answer, refer to appropriate telephone number listed on the inside back cover.\nStay upwind, uphill and/or upstream.\nKeep unauthorized personnel away.\nVentilate closed spaces before entering, but only if properly trained and equipped.\n•\n•\n•\n•\nPROTECTIVE CLOTHING\n•\nWear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).\n•\nWear flame-retardant structural firefighters’ protective clothing, including faceshield, helmet and gloves,\nas this will provide limited thermal protection.\nEVACUATION\nImmediate precautionary measure\n•\nIsolate spill or leak area for at least 50 meters (150 feet) in all directions.\nPage 268\nERG 2024\n\nAluminum (Molten)\nGUIDE\n169\nEMERGENCY RESPONSE\nFIRE\n•\n•\n•\n•\nDo not use water, except in life-threatening situations and then only in a fine spray.\nDo not use halogenated extinguishing agents or foam.\nMove combustibles out of path of advancing pool if you can do so without risk.\nExtinguish fires started by molten material by using appropriate method for the burning material; keep\nwater, halogenated extinguishing agents and foam away from the molten material.\nSPILL OR LEAK\n•\nDo not touch or walk through spilled material.\n•\nDo not attempt to stop leak, due to danger of explosion.\n•\nKeep combustibles (wood, paper, oil, etc.) away from spilled material.\n•\nSubstance is very fluid, spreads quickly, and may splash. Do not try to stop it with shovels or other\nobjects.\n•\nDike far ahead of spill; use dry sand to contain the flow of material.\n•\nWhere possible allow molten material to solidify naturally.\n•\nAvoid contact even after material solidifies. Molten, heated and cold aluminum look alike; do not touch\nunless you know it is cold.\n•\nClean up under the supervision of an expert after material has solidified.\nFIRST AID\nRefer to the “General First Aid” section.\nSpecific First Aid:\n•\nRemoval of solidified molten material from skin requires medical assistance.\nERG 2024\nPage 269","truncated":false,"body_characters":2691}
