Incident Response Training
The Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety
Administration (PHMSA) mission is to protect people and the environment from the risks of
hazardous materials transportation. To do this, we establish national policy, set and enforce
standards, educate, and conduct research to prevent incidents. PHMSA has partnered with
the Department of Homeland Security's National Fire Academy to provide these Hazardous
Materials Incident Response Training modules for first responders and non-responders.
These training modules outline the competencies defined in Chapters 4 and 5 of the
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 472 guidance "Competency of Responders to
Haz Mat/WMD Incidents".
