THE PIPELINE WAS EXCAVATED AND A PINHOLE LEAK IN THE DSAW LONG SEAM WELD WAS OBSERVED. METALLURGICAL ANALYSIS WAS PERFORMED, AND THE LEAK WAS THE RESULT OF A PINHOLE LEAK WITH A DIAMETER OF APPROXIMATELY 0.043'. THE PINHOLE WAS DUE TO POROSITY IN THE SEAM WELD. THE PIPE HAD BEEN HYDROSTATIC TESTED IN 1965 TO 1,378 PSIG (1.47 X MAOP) WITH NO LEAK DETECTED.\n\nPHMSA trend classification: significant incident, not serious.\n\nPHMSA standardized cause: MATERIAL FAILURE OF PIPE OR WELD — CONSTRUCTION, INSTALLATION OR FABRICATION-RELATED.\n\nPHMSA indexed costs: $155,882 reported total cost, $103,942.913 in 1984 dollars, $194,815.711 in current-year dollars.\n\nPHMSA trend flags, standardized causes, and indexed costs are analytical fields added to operator-reported incident data.
