Cause detail: PUMP OR PUMP-RELATED EQUIPMENT

Cause detail: AT APPROXIMATELY 08:12 AM ON APRIL 21ST, 2024, DURING A ROUTINE SITE VISIT, AN OPERATOR EMPLOYEE DISCOVERED THAT A PUMP SEAL HAD FAILED AT THE PARRISH-BOXER 8 LOCATION. THIS SEAL FAILURE CAUSED OIL TO BE ROUTED INTO A SUMP BOX EQUIPPED WITH A FLOAT SWITCH, THAT WHEN TRIGGERED, SHUT THE PUMP DOWN. DUE TO THE FAILED SEAL, A SMALL AMOUNT (APPROXIMATELY 15 GALLONS) OF OIL OVERFLOWED THE SUMP BOX AND REACHED THE SURROUNDING SOIL. THE FAILED SEAL AND CORRESPONDING SHROUD WAS REPLACED PRIOR TO RESTARTING THE PUMP ON THE FOLLOWING DAY. CONTAMINATED SOIL WAS REMOVED FROM THE SITE AND DISPOSED OF IN ACCORDANCE WITH ND DEQ REQUIREMENTS. NO IMPACT TO WATER OR WILDLIFE WAS OBSERVED, AND THE RELEASE DID NOT MEET ANY ADDITIONAL REPORTING REQUIREMENTS.
