For shipments which originate in Canada and either terminate in the U.S. or transit the U.S. to a Canadian or foreign destination, when the HMR require a DOT specification cargo tank motor vehicle to be used for a hazardous material, a cargo tank motor vehicle authorized by the TDG regulations may be used only if it corresponds to the DOT specification authorized in the HMR (see § 171.12a(b)(13)). A TC specification cargo tank motor vehicle may be used to transport a material, such as a combustible liquid, n.o.s., that is not subject to the specification packaging requirements of the HMR.
