Specifically, you request a letter confirming that the proper shipping name "Elevated temperature solid, n.o.s." does not require the addition of the qualifying word "HOT" immediately preceding the proper shipping name because the words "Elevated temperature" are part of the proper shipping Your understanding is correct. In accordance with § 172.203(n) the word "HOT" is not required to precede the proper shipping name of an elevated temperature material if the proper shipping name includes the words "Molten" or "Elevated temperature." You may enter the word "HOT" on the shipping paper as additional information following the basic description required by § 172.202 and any applicable additional descriptions required by § 172.203.
