Bost\nRef. No. 06-0010\nRegulatory Affairs Manager\nPioneer Eclipse Corporation\nPO BOX 909\nEclipse Road\nSparta, NC 28675\nDear Ms. Bost:\nThis is in response to your January 18, 2006 telephone conversation with a member of my\nstaff and subsequent letter requesting clarification regarding the marking requirements for\nhazardous materials as specified under the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR;\n49 CFR Parts 171-180). In your scenario, you ship non-bulk packages of corrosive and\nflammable materials overseas by both air and vessel. Specifically, you ask if there are any\nforeign or domestic requirements that require you to mark the outside of these packagings\nwith an indication of the mass.\nThis Office handles questions regarding the transportation of hazardous materials in\ncommerce as specified in the HMR. Under the HMR, there are no provisions that require\nan indication of the mass on the outside of a non-bulk packaging containing either a\nflammable or corrosive material.\nI hope this information is helpful.\nnathe z. sitthet\nRegulatory Review and Reinvention\nOffice of Hazardous Materials Standards\n172,301\n060010\n\n<<<PAGE 2>>>\n\nEdward Mazzullo\nDirector for Office of Hazardous\n'Morting\nMatcrials Standards\nUSDOT/PHMSA(PHH-10)\n400 7* SI SW\n06 - 00/0\nWashington, DC 20590-0001\nRE: Mass statement requirement\nDear Mr Mazzullo:\nOur company sends products overscas and in the US in fiberboard hoxes.
