Box 1456\nAtlanta, GA 30371-1456\nDear Captain Bugg:\nThis responds to your February 12, 2007 letter requesting clarification on the\napplicability of § 172.328(d) of the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR\nequipped with remote emergency closures, or only to specification cargo tanks that are\nParts 171-180). Specifically, you ask if this section applies to any cargo tank that is\nrequired to have self-closing internal stop valves.\nSection 172.328(d) requires that after October 3, 2005, each on-vehicle manually-\nactivated remote shutoff device for closure of the internal self-closing stop valve must be\nidentified by marking \"Emergency Shutoff\" in letters at least 0.75 inches in height, in a\ncolor that contrasts with its background, and located in an area immediately adjacent to\nremote emergency closures. These cargo tanks include MC 330 and MC 331\nthe means of closure.
