Specifically, you\nrequest confirmation that the tan color of the boxes used by your company to package\nlimited quantity hazardous material provides a suitable contrasting background for the\nlimited quantity marking as illustrated in a picture you provided to us.\nBased on the picture provided, the color of the packaging provides a suitable contrasting\nbackground for the limited quantity marking. As amended under HM-215K,\n§ 172.315( a )(2) requires the top and bottom portions and the border forming the square-onpoint\n(Le., the limited quantity marking) to be black and the center white or of a suitable\ncontrasting background. To rephrase, the center of the limited quantity marking must be\nwhite or of a suitable contrasting color to the black top and bottom portions and the border.\nPrinting the limited quantity marking on a fiberboard box in the manner illustrated by the\npicture you provided meets this condition.\nI trust this satisfies your inquiry. Please contact us if we can be of further assistance.\nSincerely,\nBen Supko\nChief, Standards Development Branch\nStandards and Rulemaking Division\n\n<<<PAGE 2>>>\n\nDrakeford, Carolyn (PHMSA)\nFrom: Betts, Charles (PHMSA)\nSent: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 12:31 PM\nTo: Drakeford, Carolyn (PHMSA)\nSubject: FW: Question regarding new Limited Quantity Mark\nAttachments: LQ tan,JPG; LQ White,JPG\nPlease log this in for expedited handling\nFrom: Matt Barfknecht [mailto:mattb@jones-blair.com]\nSent: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 8:57 AM\nTo: Betts, Charles (PHMSA)\nSubject: Question regarding new Limited Quantity Mark\nMr. Betts,\nWe are in the process of changing to the new limited quantity mark as required by 172.315. I have\nattached two pictures for your review. I would like to print the black diamond on our tan boxes and avoid\nprinting white. My questions is does the black over tan provide a \"suitable contrasting background\"?\nThank you for your time.\nMatt Barfknecht\nPlant Manager\n.Jones-Blair Company\n21.4-353-1.600\n1\n\n<<<PAGE 3>>>\n\n\n\n<<<PAGE 4>>>","truncated":false,"body_characters":2496}
