VanSchoonhoven:\nThis is in response to your letter requesting clarification of\nplacarding requixements for your liquid oxygen shipments.\nSpecifically you ask if a bulk shipment of Oxygen, Refrigexated\nliquid, 2.2, UN1073, may display an identification number on the\nplacard depicted in 49 CER 172.530 ox must the\nidentification numbex appeax on a sepaxate orange panel used in\nconjunction with the OXYGEN placard.\nEither is acceptable. The placard depicted in $ 172.530 may\ndisplay the word \"OXYGEN\" or the identification number \"1073\".\nSection 172.519 (b) (3) does not permit a non-text placad; that\nis, the placard illustrated in § 172.530 showing the oxidizer\nsymbol and hazard class numbex only, to be used fox placarding\nOXYGEN shipments.\nI hope this satisfies your inquiry. Hedgepeth:\n:\nWe operate an 800 gallon liquid orygen delivery vehicle in the states of Nevada and Califomia\nA question of proper placarding has come up with the commercial enforcement division of the Nevada\nHighway Patrol.\nOur tanker operates under Title 49 CFR 173.320. Under section 172 regarding placarding we interpret\nthat the yellow placard with the UN number 1073 is appropriare.
