R. Boydston\nMechanical Engineer\nStearns-Rogers, Incorporated\nP. O. Box 5888\nDenver, Colorado 80217\nDear Mr. Boydston:\nThis will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated April 17, 1972. Your specific question\nregarding the Federal gas pipeline safety standards inquired whether a compressor with nodular\niron cylinder construction rated at 1600 psig would comply with the regulations.\nThe Federal gas pipeline safety standards do not specify the material for any part of the\ncompressor nor do they specify the rated pressure of the compressor for any specific material. It\nis the responsibility of the operator to provide a properly designed compressor which will\nmaintain its structural integrity under temperature and environmental conditions encountered, and\nwhich will be chemically compatible with the gas transported and other materials in the\ncompressor. These requirements are contained in Section 192.53 of Federal minimum gas\npipeline safety regulations (49 CFR Part 192). Enclosed is a copy of Part 192.\nWe trust that this will answer your specific question. If we can be of further assistance, please let\nus know.\nSincerely,\n/signed/\nJoseph C.
