Pritchard\nDirector, Liquefied Gas Division\nMotor Vehicle Comptroller\nWoolfolk State Office Building\nPost Office Box 1140\nJackson, Mississippi 39205\nDear Mr. Pritchard:\nThis is in response to your letter dated July 3, 1972, regarding liquefied petroleum gas systems.\nYour specific question was:\n\"Please advise whether or not a liquefied petroleum gas system that serves less than 100\ncustomers from a common source and the pipeline does not cross a public place such as a\nhighway fall under the regulations of the Department of Transportation minimum safety standards\nin the transportation of natural and other gas by pipeline.\"\nA liquefied petroleum gas system that serves ten or more customers is subject to the Federal gas\npipeline safety standards regardless of whether or not it crosses a public place such as a highway.\nLiquefied petroleum gas systems serving less than 100 customers are exempt from the annual\nreport requirement of 49 CFR §191.11 but not from the safety standards.\nWe trust that this has answered your specific question.
