Dear Mr. Anderson:
This is in response to your letter date July 5, 1972, regarding requirements for producing or
maintaining maps.
Your specific question asked whether there was any requirements for producing or maintaining
maps of gas transmission or distribution systems.
Section 192.603(b) requires that each operator shall establish a written operating and maintenance
plan meeting the requirements of the Federal gas safety regulations and keep records necessary to
administer the plan. If an operator requires maps as a record to properly administer the operating
and maintenance plan to meet the Federal safety requirements, then these maps must be
maintained by the operators.
We trust that this has answered your specific question. If we can be of further assistance, please
let us know.
Sincerely,
Joseph C. Caldwell

Gentlemen:
Your DOT 192 requires certain forms of test records to be generated and maintained above
pipeline test pressures and installation. However, there seems to be absolutely no requirements
for producing or maintaining maps of gas transmission or distribution systems.
Is this correct, or did I overlook something?
Sincerely,
HENNINGSON, DURHAM & RICHARDSON
