Dear Mr. Dallas:
In your letter of January 17, 1974, you ask what protection should be provided for insulated 3/4-
inch metallic riser pipes. Risers are to be coated and cathodically protected as required by Section
192.455. The level of protection must meet one or more of the criteria contained in Section
192.463. The frequency for monitoring service risers is covered by Section 192.465.
We trust this answers your question. If you desire any further information, please advise.
Sincerely,
\signed\

Dear Mr. Caldwell:
Thank you very much for your letter amplifying the meaning of subpart I, #192.451.
You state that metallic components of plastic pipelines are subject to these requirements.
Accordingly would you please advise what protection should be provided for insulated 3/4"
metallic riser pipes (service lines) which extend under ground for a total distance of not more than
3 feet?
Very truly yours,
