Jacquot\nWyoming Public Service Commission\nSupreme Court Building\nCheyenne, WY 82002\nDear Mr. Jacquot:\nThis is in response to your letter of February 18, 1975, concerning the requalification of welders\nwho have been qualified under Section 3.2 or API Standard 1104.\nYou asked if a welder who has a multiple qualification under Section 3.2 of API Standard 1104\ncan requalify for the full scope of his qualification by having a single weld tested (radiograph of a\nbutt weld, any size) as eluded to in Section 192.229(c) or must he have both a butt and branch\nweld destructively tested? This assumes that the welder is requalifying within six months of his\ninitial qualification or a previous requalification test.\nAnswer: For welders qualified to make both butt and fillet welds by the multiple qualifications\ntest of API Standard 1104, either type of weld can be destructively tested to comply with Section\n192.229(c) since only one weld is required to be tested. However, a butt weld does not have to\nbe destructively tested to comply with Section 192.229(c) if it is nondestructively tested and\nfound acceptable under Section 6 of API Standard 1104.\nI trust this satisfactorily responds to your question.\nSincerely,\n\\signed\\\nJoseph C.
