March 24, 1993
Mr. Dan H. Weaklend
Chief, Pipeline Safety Utilities Division
Arizona Corporation Commission
1200 W. Washington Street
Phoenix, AZ 85007
Dear Mr. Weaklend:
We have considered your letter of February 3, 1993, notifying us that the Commission has granted
Southwest Gas Corporation a waiver. The purpose of the waiver is to authorize Southwest to
use plastic mechanical fittings that are not covered by specifications listed in 49 CFR Part 192.
Plastic mechanical fittings must meet all applicable Part 192 material and design requirements,
including §§192.53, 192.273(a), and 192.281(e). In view of these requirements, we have no
objection to the waiver.
Sincerely,
George W. Tenley, Jr.
Associate Administrator for
Pipeline Safety
