Cause detail: A HEAVY THUNDER STORM PASSED OVER TGP COMPRESSOR STATION 106 WITH LIGHTNING STRIKE CAUSING STATION ESD SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE. YARD VALVE 106-1D (24-INCH VALVE AND 24" PIPE) DID NOT CLOSE PROPERLY; LIGHTNING CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO STATION HARDWARE; (INPUT / OUTPUT CARDS, CONTROLS, COMPONENTS); DAMAGE RESULTED IN SIGNAL LOST TO ESD SOLENOID ALLOWING REPORTABLE AMOUNT OF NATURAL GAS TO BE RELEASED TO ATMOSPHERE; ON SITE EMPLOYEE MANUALLY CLOSED VALVE TO STOP THE GAS RELEASE EVENT; OTHER REPLACEMENTS INCLUDED JACKET WATER PUMP MOTOR, LIGHTING, POWER SUPPLIES, AND FUSES. IT IS BELIEVED THE LIGHTNING STRIKE WAS A DIRECT HIT ON THE FACILITY. KINDER MORGAN ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP REPORTED AN OIL MIST SPRAY EVENT TO THE STATE OF KENTUCKY, KEEC, REPORT NUMBER 2414873; SAID SPRAY EVENT THE RESULT OF THE LIGHTNING STRIKE.
