Cause detail: ON 5/8/03 AT 7:45A.M. GULF SOUTH PIPELINE CO., LP EMPLOYEE DISCOVERED A SMALL NATURAL GAS LEAK NEAR A PIG TRAP RECEIVER BARREL ON INDEX I30 AT NAPOLEONVILLE COMPRESSOR STATION SITE. TELEPHONIC REPORTS WERE MADE TO THE LA STATE HAZMAT. THE PIG TRAP WAS ISOLATED AND BLOWN DOWN. DURING THE EXCAVATION PROCESS NATURAL GAS CONDENSATE WAS DISCOVERED. THE SPILL WAS REPORTED (REPORT 644-426) WITH THE NATIONAL RESPONSE CENTER. A LEAK IN A DRIP COLLECTION BARREL ASSEMBLY ATTACHED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE 30" PIPELINE PIG TRAP WAS THE SOURCE OF THE CONDENSATE SPILL. AT THAT TIME THE COST OF REPAIR WAS DETERMINED TO BE GREATER THAN $50,000 A TELEPHONIC INCIDENT REPORT (REPORT #644-516) WAS MADE TO THE NATIONAL RESPONSE CENTER. THE DRIP ASSEMBLY WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A 12 FT SECTION OF 30" MAIN LINE PIPE. ALL CONTAMINATED SOIL WAS REMOVED FROM THE EXCAVATION SITE AND PROPERLY DISPOSED.
