Specifically you ask if a bulk shipment of Oxygen, Refrigexated liquid, 2.2, UN1073, may display an identification number on the placard depicted in 49 CER 172.530 ox must the identification numbex appeax on a sepaxate orange panel used in conjunction with the OXYGEN placard. Either is acceptable. The placard depicted in $ 172.530 may display the word "OXYGEN" or the identification number "1073". Section 172.519 (b) (3) does not permit a non-text placad; that is, the placard illustrated in § 172.530 showing the oxidizer symbol and hazard class numbex only, to be used fox placarding OXYGEN shipments. Hedgepeth: : We operate an 800 gallon liquid orygen delivery vehicle in the states of Nevada and Califomia A question of proper placarding has come up with the commercial enforcement division of the Nevada Highway Patrol. Our tanker operates under Title 49 CFR 173.320. Under section 172 regarding placarding we interpret that the yellow placard with the UN number 1073 is appropriare. Our local enforcement officer says we need to run a yellow placard with OXYGEN, as well as the orange panel with the UN 1073 number. Do wo need to display both markings?
