Newark, DE 19711 Dear Ms. Johnson: This is in response to your letter dated October 19, 1999 regarding the compatibility of hazardous materials packaged in the same outer packaging under the Hazardous Materials Specifically you ask if materials described as "Paint, 3, UN1263, PG II" and "Corrosive UN3264, PG III" may be packaged in the same outer packaging. liquid, acidic, inorganic, n.o.s. (chromic/phosphoric acid), 8, Hazardous materials may not be packed or mixed together in the materials if such materials are capable of reacting dangerously same outer packaging with other hazardous or non-hazardous with each other and causing: combustion or dangerous evolution of heat; evolution of flammable, poisonous, or asphyxiant gases; or formation of unstable or corrosive materials ($ 173.24 (e) (4)). Also see $ 173.21 (e). It is the shipper's responsibility to determine weather any of these dangerous reactions can occur. I hope this satisfies your request. Johnson Subject: New Purchase Order Dear Mr. Mazzullo, Good morning, I spoke with Arthur this morning at the DOT helpline about the compatibility of 2 materials in the same outer packaging. The materials are Paint, 3, UN1263, PG II and Corrosive Liquid, Acidic, Inorganic, NOS, (chromic/phosphoric acid), 8, UN 3264, PGII. Arthur informed me that the DOT has no specific segregation requirements and as long as the products don't cause a hazard when mixed that it is okay to ship them in the same outer packaging.
