Meekins Law Offices of Carpenter, Golding, Crews & Meekins Attorneys Building 806 East Trade Street Charlotte, North Carolina 28202 Dear Mr. Meekins: The Office of Hazardous Materials has forwarded your letter of April 3, 1975, to this Office for further response as to regulations governing the transportation by pipeline of liquefied petroleum gas, particularly odorization requirements. The regulations in 49 CFR Part 195 (copy enclosed) apply to the transportation of liquefied petroleum gas by pipeline carriers engaged in interstate or foreign commerce. These regulations do not require that liquefied petroleum gas be odorized during the course of transportation or storage. The regulations in 49 CFR Part 192 (copy enclosed) apply to pipelines carrying petroleum gas from where it is held in liquid form to where it is sold and delivered for consumption. Section 192.625 sets forth requirements for odorization of combustible gases (e.g., petroleum gas) in transmission and distribution lines. If we can be of any further assistance, please let us know. Sincerely, Joseph C. Caldwell Director Office of Pipeline Safety Enclosures dal\192\625\75-05-02 1#
