Page 1June 10, 1976 Mr. John Searcy Tennessee Public Service Commission Cordell Hull Building Nashville, Tennessee 37219 Dear Mr. Searcy: On May 6, 1976, we received a copy of the Commission's order in Docket No. U-6327 granting 38 natural gas distribution companies individual extensions of time to comply with the corrosion control requirements of 49 CFR 192.457(b). Under Section 3(e) of the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act of 1968, a State agency may not grant a waiver from the Federal standards unless the Secretary is given at least 60 days' notice before the effective date of the waiver. Accordingly, based on the date we received notice of the waiver, it cannot become effective until July 6, 1976, unless we notify you before that date that we have no objection to the waiver. We have assigned your letter Docket No. TN-76-1. It would facilitate our review of this matter if you would send us a copy of (1) the petition filed by the gas companies, (2) a description of each company's pipelines to which the waiver applies, and (3) for each company, the reasons why the Commission found that an extension of time is appropriate. Sincerely, Cesar DeLeon Acting Director Office of Pipeline Safety Operations dal\192\457\76-06-10 1#
