Welders: Qualification of welders.

Each welder must be qualified in accordance with section 3 of API Standard 1104 or section IX of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, except that a welder qualified under an earlier edition than listed in § 195.3 may weld but may not requalify under that earlier edition.

Effective Date Note: At 68 FR 53528, September 11, 2003, § 195.222 was amended by redesignating the existing text as paragraph (a) and adding paragraph (b), effective October 14, 2003. For the convenience of the user, the added text is set forth as follows: § 195.222 Welders: Qualification of welders. (b) No welder may weld with a particular welding process unless, within the preceding 6 calendar months, the welder has— (1) Engaged in welding with that process; and (2) Had one weld tested and found acceptable under Section 6 of API 1104.
